Forum: GratefulDead Subject: $100 Fantasy GD Show Contest Idea & Rules

If you were the Master of the Universe and could create your own personal "ultimate" Grateful Dead show, what would the set list be?

RULES: there are none! So out the window with the "one Bobby tune, one Jerry tune" (unspoken?) agreement. I can only take so many cowboy tunes, and if I hear Throwin' Stones > NFA one more time . . .

Some (most?) of you will probably just type up & post a setlist, but what I'd really love would be if people would actually create digital compilations of their ultimate "fantasy" concert here on archive.org (or somewhere else?) and someone more tech savvy than myself would then create a poll where everyone could vote on the best concert.

Two more things: If any of you do actually get around to creating a fantasy concert, feel free to jump around from one year to another; if you want to have Pig, Keith, and Brent all playing at the same show, that's cool with me. (Yea, I know there were two other piano players, they just wouldn't be a part of my fantasy show . . .)

If this contest actually gets off the ground and 100 or more fans create at least 100 or more fantasy concerts and post them somewhere on the web where we can all listen to and vote on the best show, I will pay to the winner of the contest $100.

Oh, and my fantasy show?

Would def. have to include (not in this order) a HELP>SLIP>FRANKS, a Weather Report Suite, Peggy-O, Visions of Johanna, To Lay Me Down, Bertha,, China Doll, RoadRunner, Stella Blue, Scarlet>Eyes>GDTRFB>>Morning Dew, well, obviously I'm gonna' have to put some more thought into it . . . have no idea how I'd fit all these songs together . . . gonna' have to do some more thinkin', probably have to delete a few tunes . . . but they definitly do an acoustic encore Ripple this night(Grisman shows up, too!)

Yea, it's heavily tilted towards Jerry tunes. See, on this particular day Bobby gets larringitis right after he finishes singing Weather Report Suite, it was the strangest thing . . . so Jerry had no choice but to step it up & give it all he had . . . and thus we were treated to the greatest Dead show of all time! That's how my fantasy show goes anyway . . .

that's a good one.
So is wd's. And others are ok.

I'd love to participate but am too 60's damaged (as in '66) to ever win a prize.

Well, I might include "The Raven", "Sugar Mag" (from 10-4-1970), "Wharf Rat", "The Wheel", "Unbroken Chain" (live - as in non-extant), "Alabama Getaway", "Cassidy", "Scarlet Begononias", "Franklin's Tower", "Mission In The Rain", "Terrapin Station" "Hell In A Bucket", and more like that.

Nice sets, but I'd like a few more cowboy songs in the first set. Girls like to dance around a bit...

That would be very nice....fire up the time machine:)

As to my setlist, it's way too tough to narrow it down, but I would have this sequence in my second set:-

Dark Star->
El Paso->
Eyes Of The World->
Morning Dew
(Roosevelt Stadium, 1973-08-01)

Whirlwind (& all interested Fellow Freaks):

Hell of a start--sounds like a superb show! Mountains of the Moon, now wouldn't that be sweet!

Now, to take it to the next level--->source your favorite versions of each of these songs, download them, patch them all together into your compilation "Fantasy Dead Show" and post it online somewhere for all of us to listen to & vote on.

Seriously--who ever wins I'll send $100, or a 1000G hard drive filled with 800G of live music (You supply the harddrive), winners choice.

You forgot a '73 TLEO in the first set

Maybe pop a Scarlet > Fire in there for good measure

My show would have Jack Straw and Sugar Mags,then Bobby would sudden lose his voice & his slide,then Jerry could play Stagger Lee in Peace!LOL!I'll have to put more thought into the rest of the setlist,but most definately have to have Pig Pen young & healthy,and Brent so fucked up that he can hardly hold his head up.Oh yeah,to include Keith we'll have to include Donna Jean,so we'll have to give her more moniter,and see how that works!I,personally,don't think that it would help her stay on key,but whatever,this is fantasy,right? Great idea! This is fun! I'm very easily amused these dayz!I need $100,though!Who doesn't? PEACE & LOVE
